The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 161%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Malaysia was the major exporter of naphthalene and other aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 54% of total exports in 2022. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 43% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brunei Darussalam (with a CAGR of +579.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 89% of total exports. Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Brunei Darussalam, with a CAGR of +448.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

Aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures imports contracted notably to X tons in 2022, shrinking by -24.6% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 146% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Singapore (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the major importers of naphthalene and other aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures in 2022, amounting to near 40% and 35% of total imports, respectively. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Vietnam (6.5%) and Indonesia (5.3%). The Philippines (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +34.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 82% share of total imports.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +26.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
