Cambodia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Indonesia (8.9%). Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+12.8%), Indonesia (+8.2%) and Cambodia (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +12.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Philippines (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+16 p.p.), Indonesia (+4.3 p.p.), Cambodia (+4.1 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the Philippines saw its share reduced by -7.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nitrates (excluding those of potassium) in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 16% share.
In Malaysia, nitrates imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+5.2% per year) and Vietnam (+12.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 34% against the previous year.
