In 2021, overseas shipments of nitrites decreased by -37.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nitrites exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 57%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented the main exporter of nitrites in South-Eastern Asia, creating 78% of total export. The Philippines (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +96.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 91%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of nitrites, when their volume increased by 19% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nitrites imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Indonesia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented roughly 72% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together held near 24% share of total imports. Singapore (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest nitrites importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 16%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +11.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year.
