In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Southeast Asian non-electrical lamp market, when its value decreased by -12.8% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 48%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings increased by 52% to X units for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Vietnam was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 47% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X units) and Thailand (X units), together constituting a 44% share of total exports. Malaysia (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Singapore (X units) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Vietnam decreased at an average annual rate of -8.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+26.6%) and Thailand (+11.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +26.6% from 2012-2021. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-6.8%) and Singapore (-21.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+21 p.p.) and Thailand (+16 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-12 p.p.) and Vietnam (-25.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest non-electrical lamp supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were the Philippines ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 83% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +36.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-electrical lamp export price decreased by -0.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 35%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the amount of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings imported in South-Eastern Asia skyrocketed to X units, jumping by 22% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Thailand (X units) was the key importer of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings, comprising 72% of total imports. Malaysia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Indonesia (X units). All these countries together took near 16% share of total imports. The following importers - Singapore (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Cambodia (X units) - together made up 9.5% of total imports.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings imports, with a CAGR of +28.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+24.1%), Malaysia (+14.7%) and Vietnam (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Indonesia (-4.8%) and Singapore (-8.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+49 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-5.4 p.p.), Singapore (-20.8 p.p.) and Indonesia (-21.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 14% share.

In Thailand, non-electrical lamp imports increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (-6.5% per year) and Vietnam (+6.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 24%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
