In value terms, spectacle non-plastic frame exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Thailand (X units) was the major exporter of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles, making up 52% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X units), Malaysia (X units) and Singapore (X units), together committing a 43% share of total exports. Vietnam (X units) took a little share of total exports.

In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 24%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spectacle non-plastic frame imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Thailand represented the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 50% of total imports. The Philippines (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Malaysia (11%) and Singapore (9.4%). Indonesia (X units) and Vietnam (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.
In Thailand, spectacle non-plastic frame imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (-5.3% per year) and Malaysia (-7.0% per year).
