The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +122.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, optical fiber cables exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the largest exporters of optical fiber cables in 2022, amounting to near 40% and 27% of total exports, respectively. Thailand (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +409.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest optical fiber cables supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 80% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +118.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 61%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of optical fiber cables, which increased by 1.3% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

The Philippines represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 38% of total imports. Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Indonesia (16%), Thailand (11%) and Malaysia (7.7%). Myanmar (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to optical fiber cables imports into the Philippines stood at +19.4%. At the same time, Myanmar (+22.8%), Malaysia (+15.8%), Indonesia (+11.1%), Vietnam (+10.1%) and Singapore (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +22.8% from 2012-2022. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of the Philippines (+21 p.p.), Malaysia (+3 p.p.) and Myanmar (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Singapore (-5.5 p.p.) and Thailand (-19 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 73% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +26.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
