In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of paper tablecloths and serviettes, when their volume decreased by -29.1% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, paper tablecloths exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Vietnam represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together achieving a 42% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the paper tablecloths and serviettes exports, with a CAGR of +35.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+11.4%) and Malaysia (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Thailand (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest paper tablecloths supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam amounted to +35.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+2.7% per year) and Indonesia (+7.6% per year).

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, overseas purchases of paper tablecloths and serviettes decreased by -9.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, paper tablecloths imports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Singapore (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented roughly 92% of total imports in 2021. The Philippines (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
