In 2021, the Southeast Asian peach and nectarine market decreased by -6.4% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. In general, consumption, however, showed strong growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

The country with the largest volume of peach and nectarine production was Myanmar (X tons), comprising approx. 66% of total volume. Moreover, peach and nectarine production in Myanmar exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Indonesia (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume in Myanmar was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+1.0% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.3% per year).

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, overseas shipments of peaches and nectarines increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 142% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peach and nectarine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 180% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore represented the largest exporter of peaches and nectarines in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 44% of total exports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Myanmar (17%), Malaysia (8.8%) and Thailand (4.8%). The Philippines (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to peach and nectarine exports from Singapore stood at +13.0%. At the same time, Vietnam (+82.6%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+58.2%) and Malaysia (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +82.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Myanmar (-2.4%), the Philippines (-5.8%) and Thailand (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore, Vietnam and Lao People's Democratic Republic increased by +21, +20 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore stood at +14.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+11.2% per year) and Vietnam (+64.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 18% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, approx. X tons of peaches and nectarines were imported in South-Eastern Asia; reducing by -14.1% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, peach and nectarine imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 46%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the key importers of peaches and nectarines in South-Eastern Asia, together making up 66% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Vietnam (10%). Indonesia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +34.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 85% of total imports. Indonesia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +38.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
