Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while Thailand stood at $X per ton.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, citrus fruit or melons peel imports in South-Eastern Asia reduced notably to X tons, dropping by -32.1% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports faced a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruit or melons peel imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 142%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Thailand represented the key importer of peel of citrus fruit or melons in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together held near 32% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+31.6%) and Singapore (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +31.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-8.2%), Malaysia (-23.0%) and Myanmar (-48.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia increased by +50, +17, +14 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported peel of citrus fruit or melons in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 13% share.
In Thailand, citrus fruit or melons peel imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+39.0% per year) and Singapore (+5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
