Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plaits, basketwork, wickerwork and similar products of plaiting materials exports, with a CAGR of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Thailand (-7.4%) and the Philippines (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, plaits and basketwork imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Vietnam prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 67% of total imports in 2022. While the share of Vietnam (+64 p.p.) and Myanmar (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Indonesia (-1.8 p.p.), Thailand (-5.4 p.p.), Singapore (-7.7 p.p.) and Malaysia (-46.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plaits, basketwork, wickerwork and similar products of plaiting materials in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Vietnam amounted to +39.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+0.5% per year) and Singapore (+0.5% per year).
