The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the largest exporters of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip in 2021, reaching approx. 35% and 30% of total exports, respectively. Indonesia (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 30% share of total exports. The following exporters - Singapore (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 80% of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 20%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +9.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +101.6% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Myanmar (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +19.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
