In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the Southeast Asian positive displacement pump market, when its value decreased by -15.2% to $X. In general, consumption, however, posted a prominent expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

The total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +59.9% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, exports of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in South-Eastern Asia dropped to X units, which is down by -7.5% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 193%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, positive displacement pump exports rose to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, Thailand (X units) represented the key exporter of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps, mixing up 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), mixing up a 15% share of total exports. Indonesia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand totaled +12.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+54.2% per year) and Indonesia (+5.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 73%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 130% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, positive displacement pump imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 21%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Thailand represented the major importer of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was near 67% of total imports in 2021. Indonesia (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cambodia (X units). All these countries together took near 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Vietnam (X units) and Malaysia (X units) - each accounted for a 4.4% share of total imports.

The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled +1.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+15.5% per year) and Malaysia (+9.1% per year).
