Potato Chips Market Size in South-Eastern Asia
The Southeast Asian potato chips market shrank to $X in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -7.5% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, potato chips production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -5.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, shipments abroad of potato chips increased by 1.6% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, potato chips exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 57% of total exports in 2022. The Philippines (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (10%), Indonesia (8.5%) and Vietnam (5.5%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +94.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest potato chips supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Thailand ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X), together comprising 74% of total exports. The Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Among the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +108.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, potato chips imports in South-Eastern Asia skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 16% on the year before. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +89.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, potato chips imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of potato chips, namely the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Thailand (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Brunei Darussalam (X tons). All these countries together held near 16% share of total imports. Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +29.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported potato chips in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 12% share.
In Singapore, potato chips imports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+41.4% per year) and Malaysia (+7.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -14.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
