Indonesia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

At the same time, Thailand (+61.6%), Indonesia (+31.4%) and Vietnam (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest potato starch supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 10% share.

In Malaysia, potato starch exports expanded at an average annual rate of +44.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (-7.2% per year) and Thailand (+48.6% per year).

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, potato starch imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) was the key importer of potato starch in South-Eastern Asia, committing 73% of total import. Vietnam (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Malaysia (9%) and Singapore (5.3%).
