Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved swine meat exports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) represented the major exporter of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat, achieving 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together mixing up a 27% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+26.4%) and Singapore (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Philippines (-2.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+7.5 p.p.) and Singapore (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest preserved swine meat supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to -4.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (-2.7% per year) and Singapore (+2.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Preserved swine meat imports surged to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 22% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Philippines (X tons) was the major importer of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat, making up 51% of total imports. Singapore (X tons) held a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (8.7%). The following importers - Cambodia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preserved swine meat imports into the Philippines stood at -9.3%. At the same time, Cambodia (+70.2%) and Vietnam (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +70.2% from 2012-2021. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-4.8%), Thailand (-6.9%) and Brunei Darussalam (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+7.1 p.p.), Cambodia (+4.2 p.p.), Singapore (+3.5 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -15.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 78% share of total imports. Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Brunei Darussalam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +61.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -3.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, preserved swine meat import price increased by +36.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
