Singapore (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (8.8%) and Vietnam (4.9%). Indonesia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -5.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+182.8%), Vietnam (+10.7%) and Thailand (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +182.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-2.3%) and Singapore (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar increased by +5.3, +3.7 and +3.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest printing components supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Malaysia was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (-7.6% per year) and Thailand (-2.5% per year).

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, imports of printing components in South-Eastern Asia fell to X tons, reducing by -9.4% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, printing components imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. In value terms, the largest printing components importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together accounting for 66% of total imports. Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +7.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
