Printing Press Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

The Southeast Asian printing press market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, dropping by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a notable increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press production surged to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 13,722%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, overseas shipments of printing presses increased by 25% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 57%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X units), creating a 6.4% share of total exports. Malaysia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Singapore was also the fastest-growing in terms of the printing presses exports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. Malaysia (-3.3%) and Thailand (-23.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+54 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -56% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest printing press supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

In Singapore, printing press exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-1.0% per year) and Thailand (-11.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -21.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+16.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, purchases abroad of printing presses was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the six major importers of printing presses, namely Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Myanmar (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +30.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest printing press importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports. Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +9.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, rising by 24% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 93% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
