In 2022, the Southeast Asian raspberry and blackberry market decreased by -7.3% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of raspberry and blackberry production was Vietnam (X tons), comprising approx. 95% of total volume. Moreover, raspberry and blackberry production in Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Lao People's Democratic Republic (X kg), more than tenfold.

In Vietnam, raspberry and blackberry production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

For the fourth consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of raspberries and blackberries, which increased by 27% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Indonesia was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), generating a 24% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries and blackberries exports, with a CAGR of +95.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Singapore (+15.6%) and Vietnam (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Indonesia (+72 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Vietnam (-14.7 p.p.) and Singapore (-34 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest raspberry and blackberry supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

In Indonesia, raspberry and blackberry exports increased at an average annual rate of +108.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (+14.3% per year) and Vietnam (+3.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -2.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, raspberry and blackberry export price increased by +63.4% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 24%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

Raspberry and blackberry imports declined significantly to X tons in 2022, waning by -19.9% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Singapore represented the key importer of raspberries and blackberries in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 60% of total imports in 2022. Malaysia (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (12%) and Thailand (5.1%). The following importers - Cambodia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - together made up 4.8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to raspberry and blackberry imports into Singapore stood at +5.9%. At the same time, Vietnam (+39.4%), Thailand (+20.6%), Indonesia (+19.6%), Cambodia (+18.2%) and Malaysia (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +39.4% from 2012-2022. Indonesia (+12 p.p.), Thailand (+3.7 p.p.), Cambodia (+2.1 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Malaysia saw its share reduced by -5.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries and blackberries in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore amounted to +7.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+43.5% per year) and Thailand (+25.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 24% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%.
