For the third consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in shipments abroad of raw hides and skins of bovine animals, which decreased by -15.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 125% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cows skin exports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Thailand represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 49% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 28% share, followed by Myanmar (19%). Malaysia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

In 2021, approx. X tons of raw hides and skins of bovine animals were imported in South-Eastern Asia; with an increase of 22% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cows skin imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
