The country with the largest volume of cows skin production was Indonesia (X tons), accounting for 41% of total volume. Moreover, cows skin production in Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the Philippines (X tons), threefold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Indonesia stood at +6.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+7.2% per year) and Thailand (+4.3% per year).

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
For the third consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in shipments abroad of raw hides and skins of bovine animals, which decreased by -15.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 125% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cows skin exports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 49% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 28% share, followed by Myanmar (19%). Malaysia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +26.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest cows skin supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Myanmar, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to +16.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+18.1% per year) and Myanmar (-31.7% per year).

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of raw hides and skins of bovine animals were imported in South-Eastern Asia; with an increase of 22% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cows skin imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) represented the key importer of raw hides and skins of bovine animals, generating 54% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons), together making up a 42% share of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +27.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+31.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +31.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-9.1%) and Vietnam (-17.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Indonesia and Cambodia increased by +47 and +14 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Cambodia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 95% of total imports.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +29.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
