Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +92.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Thailand was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 66% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Vietnam (11%) and Indonesia (4.7%). Singapore (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from Thailand stood at +5.6%. At the same time, Vietnam (+20.3%), Indonesia (+15.9%) and Malaysia (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +20.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Vietnam and Indonesia increased by +7.4 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest refractory bricks, blocks and tiles supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to +6.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+3.6% per year) and Vietnam (+23.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 18%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
Refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports soared to X tons in 2021, increasing by 33% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +4.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) was the largest importer of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles, constituting 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together making up a 40% share of total imports. The Philippines (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
