The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The country with the largest volume of sheepskin and lambskin production was Indonesia (X tons), comprising approx. 88% of total volume. Moreover, sheepskin and lambskin production in Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Myanmar (X tons), more than tenfold.
In Indonesia, sheepskin and lambskin production expanded at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Myanmar (-4.1% per year) and Malaysia (+5.7% per year).
The average sheepskin and lambskin yield dropped to X kg per head in 2022, falling by -5.4% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the yield recorded a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X kg per head in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In 2022, number of animals slaughtered for sheepskin and lambskin production in South-Eastern Asia expanded remarkably to X heads, picking up by 9.6% compared with 2021. This number increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the number of producing animals increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, the number of producing animals reached the peak level of X heads. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of this number remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, shipments abroad of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) increased by 124% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 6,761%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1,276% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Myanmar (X tons) represented roughly 98% of total exports in 2022.
Myanmar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of sheep or lamb skins (without wool). From 2012 to 2022, the share of Myanmar increased by +97 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Myanmar ($X) also remains the largest sheepskin and lambskin supplier in South-Eastern Asia.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Myanmar amounted to +5.8%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 55% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 403% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas purchases of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports recorded measured growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia represented the major importer of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 61% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together mixing up a 36% share of total imports. Singapore (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of sheep or lamb skins (without wool). At the same time, Thailand (+206.2%) and Vietnam (+13.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +206.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-13.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+28 p.p.) and Vietnam (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -9.2% and -21.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the largest sheepskin and lambskin importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 90% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +149.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -27.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 77%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
