The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sheet piling exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons) represented the largest exporter of sheet piling, shapes and sections (of iron or steel), generating 64% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 35% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sheet piling exports from Thailand stood at +9.4%. At the same time, Vietnam (+19.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +19.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-12.8%) and Singapore (-20.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+46 p.p.) and Vietnam (+14 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Malaysia (-12.9 p.p.) and Singapore (-33.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) emerged as the largest sheet piling supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to +4.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+19.2% per year) and Singapore (-19.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, the amount of sheet piling, shapes and sections (of iron or steel) imported in South-Eastern Asia skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 20% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sheet piling imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Philippines was the key importer of sheet piling, shapes and sections (of iron or steel) in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 72% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Singapore (7%). Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sheet piling, shapes and sections (of iron or steel) imports, with a CAGR of +44.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+16.5%) and Thailand (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Singapore (-5.0%), Indonesia (-6.7%) and Malaysia (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Philippines (+63 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore saw its share reduced by -16.4%, -16.6% and -29.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Philippines ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sheet piling, shapes and sections (of iron or steel) in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 7.4% share.
In the Philippines, sheet piling imports expanded at an average annual rate of +41.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+14.7% per year) and Singapore (-8.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 35% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable reduction. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
