The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 39%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, spark plug exports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Thailand was the key exporter of sparking plugs in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X units), committing a 23% share of total exports. Singapore (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sparking plugs exports, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+12.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to +35.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+11.9% per year) and Singapore (-10.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, spark plug imports in South-Eastern Asia declined to X units, shrinking by -4.1% against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spark plug imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of spark plug imports in 2022 were Thailand (X units), Malaysia (X units) and Singapore (X units), together accounting for 73% of total import. Indonesia (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Vietnam (8.8%) and the Philippines (5.1%). Myanmar (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest spark plug importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 68% share of total imports. Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +18.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spark plug import price decreased by -10.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 36% against the previous year.
