As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wood slicing machine imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 101%. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +31.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-11.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+11 p.p.), Vietnam (+7.9 p.p.), Thailand (+5.4 p.p.), Cambodia (+3 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Malaysia (-6.7 p.p.) and Indonesia (-25.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 80% of total imports. Thailand, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +35.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -30.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
