Hand Stamp Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the Southeast Asian hand stamp market increased by 3.4% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hand stamp production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, approx. X units of stamps for use in the hand were exported in South-Eastern Asia; with a decrease of -20.2% against the previous year. Total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +49.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 87% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, hand stamp exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Vietnam (X units) was the major exporter of stamps for use in the hand, mixing up 53% of total exports. Malaysia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Thailand (14%), the Philippines (8%) and Singapore (6.6%).

Exports from Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (+6.2%) and Malaysia (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +6.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Thailand (-1.1%) and Singapore (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+6.7 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.9 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Singapore saw its share reduced by -4% and -6.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest hand stamp supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 14% share.

In Vietnam, hand stamp exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+1.1% per year) and Thailand (-8.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Singapore ($X per unit) and Malaysia ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) and Vietnam ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

Hand stamp imports reached X units in 2022, picking up by 3% on the previous year. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hand stamp imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of stamps for use in the hand, namely Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X units), creating a 4.7% share of total imports. The Philippines (X units) and Myanmar (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +20.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -11.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
