Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, starter motor exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 8.9%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Thailand (X units) was the largest exporter of starter motors and dual purpose starter generators, generating 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units) and Indonesia (X units), together creating a 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - Vietnam (X units) and Singapore (X units) - each amounted to a 3.8% share of total exports.

Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of starter motors and dual purpose starter generators. In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest starter motor supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand amounted to -4.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+3.3% per year) and Singapore (-4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -5.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 8.8%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+18.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of starter motors and dual purpose starter generators, when their volume increased by 20% to X units. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, starter motor imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand was the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), Singapore (X units) and Indonesia (X units), together creating a 38% share of total imports. Vietnam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the starter motors and dual purpose starter generators imports, with a CAGR of +5.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Malaysia and Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Vietnam, with a CAGR of +7.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -2% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
