Sulphonamides Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

For the fourth year in a row, the Southeast Asian sulphonamides market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 0.6% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +81.7% against 2017 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, exports of sulphonamides in South-Eastern Asia surged to X tons, with an increase of 50% on 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sulphonamides exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Singapore represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 70% of total exports. Cambodia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Indonesia (13%).

Exports from Singapore decreased at an average annual rate of -18.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+23.4%) and Indonesia (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +23.4% from 2012-2021. Cambodia (+17 p.p.) and Indonesia (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -29.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest sulphonamides supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cambodia ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports.

In Singapore, sulphonamides exports shrank by an average annual rate of -12.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+38.8% per year) and Indonesia (+12.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 4.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sulphonamides export price decreased by -21.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+12.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the amount of sulphonamides imported in South-Eastern Asia rose markedly to X tons, surging by 8.2% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, sulphonamides imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Indonesia was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together creating a 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphonamides imports into Indonesia stood at +6.8%. At the same time, Vietnam (+10.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +10.6% from 2012-2021. The Philippines experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Thailand (-3.6%), Singapore (-4.3%) and Malaysia (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+9.9 p.p.) and Indonesia (+9.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-4.1 p.p.), Malaysia (-5.5 p.p.) and Thailand (-8.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 75% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +14.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 66%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
