Exports from Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +15.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+16.5%) and Malaysia (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 13% share.

In Indonesia, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+4.0% per year) and Thailand (+14.7% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports reached X tons in 2021, picking up by 4% on 2020 figures. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced reduction. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
