The Southeast Asian sugary soft drink market fell to $X in 2022, dropping by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sugary soft drink production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
Sugary soft drink exports dropped to X litres in 2022, shrinking by -10.5% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugary soft drink exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Malaysia was the largest exporter of sugary soft drinks in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X litres, which was approx. 49% of total exports in 2022. Thailand (X litres) held a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (9.8%), Vietnam (8.7%) and Singapore (4.6%). The following exporters - Lao People's Democratic Republic (X litres) and the Philippines (X litres) - each finished at a 4.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sugary soft drink exports from Malaysia stood at +1.1%. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+72.1%) and Vietnam (+12.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +72.1% from 2012-2022. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.2%), the Philippines (-5.7%) and Singapore (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+6 p.p.), Malaysia (+4 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore saw its share reduced by -1.5%, -1.7% and -8.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 75% share of total exports. Vietnam, Singapore, Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +75.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per litre), while Malaysia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, the amount of sugary soft drinks imported in South-Eastern Asia stood at X litres, with an increase of 2.8% against the year before. In general, imports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Cambodia (X litres) and Singapore (X litres) were the largest importers of sugary soft drinks in 2022, amounting to near 35% and 28% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X litres), Indonesia (X litres) and Myanmar (X litres), together committing a 25% share of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X litres) and Thailand (X litres) - each amounted to a 6.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +32.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cambodia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sugary soft drinks in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 13% share.
In Cambodia, sugary soft drink imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+7.9% per year) and Vietnam (+31.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, with an increase of 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.2%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per litre in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per litre), while Malaysia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
