In value terms, wood kitchenware and tableware production fell slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +37.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 37% against the previous year. Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, overseas shipments of tableware and kitchenware of wood increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, wood kitchenware and tableware exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +140.6% against 2012 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Vietnam (X tons) was the major exporter of tableware and kitchenware of wood, making up 61% of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total exports.
Exports from Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +13.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+28.4%), the Philippines (+6.5%) and Thailand (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +28.4% from 2012-2021. Indonesia (+13 p.p.) and Vietnam (+7.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Philippines and Thailand saw its share reduced by -2.4% and -16.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest wood kitchenware and tableware supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Vietnam stood at +11.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+5.0% per year) and Indonesia (+26.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Tableware And Kitchenware Of Wood
Imports in South-Eastern Asia
Wood kitchenware and tableware imports soared to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 24% on the previous year. In general, imports posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wood kitchenware and tableware imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons) was the main importer of tableware and kitchenware of wood, making up 55% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (10%), Singapore (8.2%) and the Philippines (5.2%). The following importers - Vietnam (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) - each accounted for a 6.2% share of total imports.
Imports into Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Myanmar (+78.4%), Indonesia (+26.7%), Malaysia (+13.7%), Singapore (+10.3%) and Vietnam (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +78.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Philippines (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+12 p.p.), Indonesia (+7 p.p.), Myanmar (+2.9 p.p.) and Malaysia (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-2.4 p.p.) and the Philippines (-24.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 68% share of total imports. The Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +34.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
