Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

At the same time, Cambodia (+61.7%), the Philippines (+26.4%), Thailand (+12.3%) and Indonesia (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +61.7% from 2012-2022. Thailand (+15 p.p.), the Philippines (+13 p.p.) and Cambodia (+5.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Vietnam saw its share reduced by -34% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tanned or dressed furskins in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Vietnam was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+82.6% per year) and Thailand (+21.3% per year).
