The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, tapioca and substitutes exports rose slightly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +58.1% against 2017 indices. Thailand represented the main exporter of tapioca and substitutes in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), creating a 17% share of total exports.
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012-2021. Imports in South-Eastern Asia
Tapioca and substitutes imports amounted to X tons in 2021, surging by 13% on 2020. In general, imports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tapioca and substitutes imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the key importer of tapioca and substitutes, mixing up 41% of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Philippines (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 52% share of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +76.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tapioca and substitutes in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 13% share.
In Malaysia, tapioca and substitutes imports increased at an average annual rate of +22.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+2.0% per year) and Singapore (+3.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
