Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, overseas shipments of thiosulphates decreased by -79.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 210% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, thiosulphates exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Malaysia represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 76% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 23% share of total exports.
Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the thiosulphates exports, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. Indonesia (-5.4%), Singapore (-25.0%) and Vietnam (-28.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Malaysia (+69 p.p.) and Indonesia (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-35.1 p.p.) and Vietnam (-36.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest thiosulphates supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 97% of total exports.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +5.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 135% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+23.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
For the fifth year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded growth in overseas purchases of thiosulphates, which increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +88.4% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 50%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, thiosulphates imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +102.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) was the major importer of thiosulphates in South-Eastern Asia, committing 77% of total import. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons), together achieving a 17% share of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +42.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +43.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 8.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
