Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes increased by 50% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 66%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 57% of total exports. Singapore (X units) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (9.1%) and Malaysia (6.9%). The Philippines (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes exports, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+35.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Malaysia (-8.3%), Indonesia (-13.0%) and Singapore (-17.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+56 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-7.9 p.p.) and Singapore (-46.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 88% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +30.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Singapore was the main importer of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Indonesia (13%), Thailand (6.6%) and Malaysia (5.4%). The Philippines (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes. At the same time, Thailand (+4.1%) and Vietnam (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-3.7%), the Philippines (-11.7%) and Indonesia (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+21 p.p.), Vietnam (+6.1 p.p.) and Thailand (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the Philippines and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -4.5% and -26.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.8% share.
In Singapore, transporter and bridge cranes imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+0.5% per year) and Thailand (+4.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
