The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
Textile wadding exports stood at X tons in 2021, increasing by 6.6% against the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +32.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, textile wadding exports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the major exporter of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (16%) and Singapore (5.7%). The following exporters - the Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - each resulted at a 5.9% share of total exports.
Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wadding of textile materials and articles thereof exports, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+10.4%) and the Philippines (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-1.2%) and Malaysia (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+23 p.p.) and Vietnam (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -6%, -7.3% and -12.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest textile wadding supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 12% share.
In Thailand, textile wadding exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (-4.1% per year) and Vietnam (+6.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 8.1%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof decreased by -28.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, textile wadding imports reduced to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly 71% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together mixing up a 28% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Thailand (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest textile wadding importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 63% of total imports.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +13.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
