The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, waffle and wafer imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) was the major importer of waffles and wafers in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 63% of total import. Vietnam (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Malaysia (12%) and Singapore (6%). Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
