The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, woven carpet exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Indonesia represented the largest exporter of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X square meters, which was approx. 51% of total exports in 2022. In terms of the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +44.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2022, dropping by -37.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 8.9% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per square meter), while Indonesia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings increased by 5% to X square meters, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, woven carpet imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Malaysia was the major importer of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X square meters, which was approx. 43% of total imports in 2022. Indonesia (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Thailand (16%), the Philippines (10%) and Singapore (7.2%). By contrast, Indonesia (-2.5%), Singapore (-4.6%) and Vietnam (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Malaysia (+11 p.p.), Thailand (+6.3 p.p.), the Philippines (+4.4 p.p.) and Myanmar (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Vietnam (-6.6 p.p.), Singapore (-6.8 p.p.) and Indonesia (-9.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 73% share of total imports. Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +16.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2022, falling by -1.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per square meter), while the Philippines ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
