The Southeast Asian woolen fabric market soared to $X in 2021, jumping by 16% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a pronounced setback. In 2021, overseas shipments of woven woolen fabrics increased by 10% to X square meters, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, woolen fabric exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -14.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 49%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Vietnam (X square meters), Thailand (X square meters) and Singapore (X square meters) represented roughly 95% of total exports in 2021. It was followed by Vietnam (X square meters), Indonesia (X square meters), Malaysia (X square meters) and Singapore (X square meters), together creating a 52% share of total exports. Malaysia (X square meters) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +13.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 97% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +14.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2021, with an increase of 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2020 to 2021, the the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per square meter), while Malaysia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+17.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of woven woolen fabrics imported in South-Eastern Asia skyrocketed to X square meters, jumping by 20% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, woolen fabric imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Vietnam (X square meters) and Indonesia (X square meters) represented the largest importers of woven woolen fabrics in South-Eastern Asia, together reaching approx. 69% of total imports. Indonesia (X square meters) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (8%), Cambodia (12%), Myanmar (5.9%) and the Philippines (2.1%). The following importers - the Philippines (X square meters) and Singapore (X square meters) - each reached a 3.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +8.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Cambodia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 89% of total imports.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +4.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per square meter, falling by -5.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per square meter), while Myanmar ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
