In value terms, animal fats exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nepal was the main exporter of animal fats and oils in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 60% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), making up a 36% share of total exports. Sri Lanka (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +105.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest animal fats supplying countries in Southern Asia were Nepal ($X), India ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X), together comprising 99% of total exports.
Nepal, with a CAGR of +70.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -34.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 122% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell sharply in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the fourth consecutive year, Southern Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of animal fats and oils, which increased by 49% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 236%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, animal fats imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Bangladesh (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together creating 90% of total imports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), creating an 8.4% share of total imports. Afghanistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +75.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Bangladesh ($X), Pakistan ($X) and India ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 97% share of total imports.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +50.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -44.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
