Apricot Market Size in Southern Asia
The South Asian apricot market rose notably to $X in 2022, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, apricot exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a temperate expansion. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Afghanistan (X tons) represented the major exporter of apricots in Southern Asia, comprising 100% of total export.
Afghanistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the apricots exports, with a CAGR of +4.2% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Afghanistan (+4.8 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Afghanistan ($X) also remains the largest apricot supplier in Southern Asia.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Afghanistan stood at +3.3%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -17.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Afghanistan.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, overseas purchases of apricots were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 905%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, apricot imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 793% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Pakistan dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 97% of total imports in 2022. India (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to apricot imports into Pakistan stood at +17.6%. At the same time, India (+30.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +30.2% from 2012-2022. India (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Pakistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported apricots in Southern Asia, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Pakistan amounted to +6.6%.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -35.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan stood at $X per ton.
