India dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), achieving an 8.6% share of total exports.

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Articles of fiber cement imports contracted rapidly to X tons in 2022, reducing by -39.7% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, articles of fiber cement imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.6% against 2020 indices. The purchases of the three major importers of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like, namely Nepal, India and Pakistan, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Maldives (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 4.9% share, followed by Bangladesh (4.7%). Bhutan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +28.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Nepal ($X) and Pakistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 84% share of total imports. Bangladesh, Maldives and Bhutan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +32.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
