India represented the key importer of base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2021. Sri Lanka (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Bangladesh (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons). All these countries together took near 41% share of total imports. Nepal (X tons) and Maldives (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nepal (+22.4%), Bangladesh (+20.7%), Maldives (+9.4%) and Sri Lanka (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +22.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Pakistan (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Bangladesh (+12 p.p.), Sri Lanka (+6.1 p.p.) and Nepal (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Pakistan and India saw its share reduced by -7.3% and -12.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder in Southern Asia, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with an 8.5% share.

In India, agglomerated powder rod imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sri Lanka (+5.6% per year) and Bangladesh (+11.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country
