Exports in Southern Asia

In 2021, shipments abroad of base stations increased by 27% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 107%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, base station exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 127%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

India was the major exporter of base stations in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), mixing up a 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Pakistan (X kg) and Nepal (X kg) - each accounted for a 4.6% share of total exports.

India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of base stations. Nepal (-11.8%), Pakistan (-13.3%) and Sri Lanka (-20.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India increased by +45 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest base station supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Nepal, with a 2.1% share.

In India, base station exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (-19.9% per year) and Nepal (-9.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of base stations increased by 56% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 123%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, base station imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 110%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Bangladesh (X tons) was the key importer of base stations, generating 49% of total imports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons), together mixing up a 47% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +7.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest base station importing markets in Southern Asia were Bangladesh ($X), India ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X), together comprising 95% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +7.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -25.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
