Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, dicalcium phosphate exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, India (X tons) represented the major exporter of calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) in Southern Asia, making up 99% of total export.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) exports, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) also remains the largest dicalcium phosphate supplier in Southern Asia.

In India, dicalcium phosphate exports increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to -1.4% per year.

Imports in Southern Asia

After five years of growth, purchases abroad of calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) decreased by -46.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, dicalcium phosphate imports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Bangladesh was the main importer of calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 44% of total imports in 2021. Nepal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), India (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons). All these countries together took near 54% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dicalcium phosphate imports into Bangladesh stood at +4.5%. At the same time, Nepal (+19.5%) and India (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +19.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Pakistan (-1.2%) and Sri Lanka (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nepal (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka saw its share reduced by -4.5% and -13.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest dicalcium phosphate importing markets in Southern Asia were Pakistan ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 77% of total imports. These countries were followed by Sri Lanka and Nepal, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Among the main importing countries, Nepal, with a CAGR of +14.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 34% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
