Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012-2021. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the largest importer of carbonates and peroxocarbonates, generating 74% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), constituting a 21% share of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

While the share of Bangladesh (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-2.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carbonates and peroxocarbonates in Southern Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 3.3% share.

In India, carbonate imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+10.9% per year) and Sri Lanka (+5.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country
