The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the harvested area increased by 7.3%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports in Southern Asia

In 2022, the amount of cauliflower and broccoli exported in Southern Asia expanded rapidly to X tons, growing by 13% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 151%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 183%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

India was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons), together making up a 29% share of total exports. Afghanistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cauliflower and broccoli exports from India stood at +12.4%. At the same time, Pakistan (+59.0%), Bangladesh (+25.9%) and Afghanistan (+22.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, the largest cauliflower and broccoli supplying countries in Southern Asia were Bangladesh ($X), India ($X) and Pakistan ($X), together comprising 97% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +46.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -24.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 483%. Imports in Southern Asia

In 2022, approx. X tons of cauliflower and broccoli were imported in Southern Asia; dropping by -28.2% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Maldives represented the key importer of cauliflower and broccoli in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 65% of total imports in 2022. Bhutan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Nepal (6.7%). Bangladesh (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cauliflower and broccoli imports into Maldives stood at +8.8%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+21.9%) and Nepal (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +21.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bhutan (-13.4%) and Sri Lanka (-18.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Maldives ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cauliflower and broccoli in Southern Asia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bhutan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Maldives stood at +13.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bhutan (-12.9% per year) and Sri Lanka (-4.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade.
