In value terms, ceramic household article exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

India (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together comprising 90% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), making up a 9.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +10.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X), India ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 98% share of total exports.

India, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 8.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After four years of decline, supplies from abroad of ceramic household articles and toilet articles increased by 48% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic household article imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

India represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 56% of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Pakistan (13%). The following importers - Maldives (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), Nepal (X tons) and Afghanistan (X tons) - together made up 9.5% of total imports.

Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+8.2%), Nepal (+8.1%), Maldives (+6.0%) and Pakistan (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +8.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bangladesh (-1.2%) and Afghanistan (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Sri Lanka increased by +6.5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest ceramic household article importing markets in Southern Asia were India ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X), with a combined 83% share of total imports. Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal and Afghanistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

Nepal, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 6.7%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nepal ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+14.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
