The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cherry and sour cherry exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 857% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Afghanistan dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), comprising a 6.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - India (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons) - each recorded a 3.5% share of total exports.

Afghanistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cherries and sour cherries exports, with a CAGR of +70.2% from 2012 to 2022. In value terms, Afghanistan ($X) remains the largest cherry and sour cherry supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 3.1% share.

In Afghanistan, cherry and sour cherry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +63.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+60.7% per year) and Sri Lanka (+49.3% per year).

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a prominent increase. In 2022, the amount of cherries and sour cherries imported in Southern Asia soared to X tons, jumping by 74% on 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cherry and sour cherry imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 106%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
