Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, chlorides exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +97.1% against 2015 indices. India dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), achieving a 7.5% share of total exports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) exports, with a CAGR of +14.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Pakistan (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of India (+9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Pakistan (-9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest chlorides supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 2.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to +8.7%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-4.7%).

Imports in Southern Asia
Chlorides imports rose remarkably to X tons in 2021, increasing by 5.3% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chlorides imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 33%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
India was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 84% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), constituting a 10% share of total imports. Bangladesh (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) imports, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+16.4%) and Bangladesh (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of India (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Bangladesh (-7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) in Southern Asia, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 6.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India stood at +9.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (+12.2% per year) and Bangladesh (+7.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt setback. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
