The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -21.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 314% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per unit), while Pakistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Nepal (X units) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to rock cutter imports into India stood at -17.9%. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+24.6%), Bhutan (+14.9%) and Maldives (+14.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +24.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Nepal (-4.0%), Bangladesh (-4.0%) and Pakistan (-36.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+25 p.p.), Maldives (+9.6 p.p.), Sri Lanka (+5.5 p.p.), Bhutan (+4.8 p.p.), Bangladesh (+4.3 p.p.) and Nepal (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Pakistan (-53.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coal or rock cutters and tunnelling machinery in Southern Asia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Bhutan, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at -18.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sri Lanka (+32.3% per year) and Bhutan (+9.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per unit, waning by -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 45% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while Maldives ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
